A stunning result for New Forest Brass Training Band who put in a fantastic performance at the Wessex Training and Youth Band Festival and were delighted to be rewarded with second prize. It was only the second time we have entered, and showed how much the training band has improved since our first visit last year.
We started our programme with the well known march Slaidburn, and then played The Rose, a flugel duet featuring Lorraine Gordon and Judith Archbold. This was followed by two songs from the Lloyd Webber musical Cats: Skimbleshanks and The Old Gumbie Cat (including solos from Lauren Clarke on euphonium and Lynette Baskett on cornet). Some contrast then with two verses of the hymn Aurelia. Paul Holley played the cornet solo in Love Changes Everything, and we finished our set with the theme tune from Indiana Jones.
We had a great day and celebrated in the evening with curry back in Ashurst. Well done all training band members for your performance and all the hard work beforehand, and thank you to all training band helpers.
