Thanks to everyone who came to play, collect or support us at any of the events. Have a great Christmas, and we look forward to another fine year of banding in 2015!

NFB compete in Wessex contest

29 November 2014 We took part in the Wessex Winter Contest in Bournemouth on Saturday. After an early start as first band on stage, we were really pleased with our performance of Gregson's 'Variations on Laudate Dominum', but were a little disappointed with our placing of 14th out of 18 bands and 5th out of 6 in the Third Section. However, we nevertheless got some positive comments from the adjudicator and also beat several bands from higher gradings. This was also the first time we have competed in an international contest, as one of our competitors was from Switzerland! Afterwards, Tim and Lauren hosted a party which went on late into the night - thanks for having us!

Fantastic weekend at the National Finals

22 September 2014 We had an enjoyable weekend away in Cheltenham where we took part in the Third Section national championship final. We came 15th with our performance of Ewald's 'Symphony for Brass', but were very pleased just to make it to the finals. We are delighted to report that Guy's moustache has finally won the recognition it deserves! Thanks to everyone who made the weekend so enjoyable.

We are raising money for three fantastic charities: Wessex Heartbeat is a local charity which supports heart care at the Wessex Cardiac Centre in Southampton, and British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK fund research into heart disease and cancer respectively. Please help us to raise as much money as we can for these great causes by visiting our fundraising page!

10 April 2014 Ken Matthews, one of our founding members, has published a book about the band. In 'History of NFBB', Ken traces the band's progress from its inception in Marchwood Engineering Labs to the present day, including accounts of our contest successes and other notable or humorous incidents over the years. If you wish to obtain a copy of the book, see the History section of the website. Well done Ken!

8 March 2014 We came second in the third section of the West of England championships in Torquay. We were reasonably happy with our performance of Philip Wilby's 'Partita', but very surprised to have our name read out as runner up. We qualified for the national finals in Cheltenham and also earned promotion to the second section for next year! We celebrated with champagne as well as the traditional curry. Guy's moustache also attracted much interest from the brass banding press. A fantastic weekend. Bring on September and the finals, when we get to do it all again!
