NFB return to Saddleworth for Whit Friday Marches

22 May 2016 Having enjoyed our first taste of Whit Friday last year, we ventured North again to attend the march contests in Saddleworth, Greater Manchester. This time we managed to attend contests in 7 villages, at Lydgate, Grotton, Lees, Scouthead, Delph, Diggle and Dobcross. At each one we marched up before being adjudicated on our performance of Bravura by George Allen. It was dry to start, but we got very wet at the last two contests - luckily there were band rooms at those to shelter in. Still waiting for the contest results, but a great time was had by all! Thanks to everyone who came.

Most Improved Player Awards for Ruby and Mel

16 April 2016 Congratulations to Ruby Warren and Mel Palmer who were awarded the Mike Swatman Shield and Trevor Jones Award for most improved young and adult players respectively at our recent Spring Concert at Waterside. It was a hard decision as we could have awarded the prizes to several candidates, but Ruby has been making great progress on cornet, while Mel this year made an unusual but very successful switch from cornet to Bb bass! Well done both!

Unlucky 13 at the Regionals in Torquay

14 March 2016 Last weekend we competed in the Second Section of the West of England Regional Championships. We were drawn to play as the last band of the day and enjoyed our performance of Philip Harper's 'Mermaid of Zennor'. Unfortunately it didn't find favour with the adjudicators as we came 13th out of 16 bands, but we just stayed in the section for another year. We still had a great weekend, and now we are looking forward to practising for our upcoming Spring Concert in April.
