Adjudicator's Remarks

Order of play: 5, Placing: 2nd

Captain Sam Hairsine:

Slaidburn:
Good start. Watch the intonation though. Euph counter-melodies come across well. Good dynamic contrasts for such a large ensemble. Cornet fanfare figures are well-shaped. Take care over the ends of phrases. Inner parts come across well. A good start!

The Rose:
Nice opening. Euph could be more prominent. Sensitive entry from the flugels. Be careful of balance - make sure we can always hear the soloists. Nice accomp from tenor horn. Nice into C. Bravo!

Skimbleshanks:
Good work on the kit. Nice shapes created here. Contributions are good throughout the band. Nice sound to close.

The Old Gumbie Cat:
Euph plays nicely but could give even more. Really aim for lyricism in this opening section. Great feel at A - the band really bounces! More good kit work. Really good playing.

Aurelia:
A warm sound. Make sure to support the sound, especially at quieter dynamics. There could perhaps be more shape in the opening lines of v.2 but you create some nice music later on. There could perhaps be more presence, but this was a nice rendition.

Love Changes Everything:
Confident start. Be careful not to force the sound. Nice solo entry. Great phrase lengths and nice feeling. Watch the tuning within the band. You make really nice lines in this. The tenor section could perhaps give more in the full band section. A really nice playing of this piece.

Indiana Jones:
Confident start even if the intonation could have been better! Loads of character in the tune. Good accompaniment. Really spirited playing with good contrasts.

A really entertaining and enjoyable performance - thank you and well done!
