Order of play: 8, Placing: 10th
David Hirst:
Some good dynamic shapes to open but intonation is not always secure. C - Good tempo and there is an attempt to vary the dynamics. Not quite tidy bar 59-62.
Var 2 - nice opening section - tuning issues bars 94-97 and 101. I - well done solo lines. Well done solo cornet. J. Good tempo - some tuning issues bar 119-122.
Var 3 - good tempo but M could be more 'abandonment'.
Var 4 - a careful approach to the accel but the playing is fairly neat as a result. Good approach to BB. Maestoso could have more space. A good attempt at the Presto.
Some musical moments with some solo lines. There were intonation issues and some lack of ensemble precision in places.
Roger Webster:
Neat to open - but a 'few' lapses of intonation detract. Rhythm 3 before C. E+ a few uncomfortable moments.
v2 Concentration + air - then it works. A few more errors as we continue - nerves? In ensemble work - all sounds fine. K - bravo solo cornet. Intonation into v3.
v3 flow is not 100% - a little static.
v4 not all parts heard (?) V+ untidy. X euphs - bravo. Perc + band not together BB + DD.
Sorry for the many negative comments, but I felt this could have been so much better with just a little more concentration and effort. Thank you.
