Adjudicators' Remarks - March: Bravura

Lydgate - Derek Southcott:
Band Number 2
Contest points: 159
Placing: 55th
Performance: Fair
Section work/balance: Cornets, Horns, Bar/euphs, Troms, Basses - all Fair
Use of Dynamics/Musicianship: Fair
Intonation: Good, Fair in Bass solo section.
More ff to start please. Semiquavers not together at times. Bass solo intonation? and not together. However you achieve a good overall balance. With work I feel this performance could be better!

Grotton - Stephen Tighe:
Band Number 6
Contest points: 172
Placing: 32nd
All a little disjointed - interesting march, but lacks a bit of impact. Semis in cornets being 'slowed down'. Some attempt at balance noted. Space being given to the music too. MD well done. You don't always move together and seem to lack confidence in the ensemble. Bass solo a little better. S trom a little sharp. Again so loose in the ensemble. Finishes nicely.
Overall: All a bit loose and not together. Tuning issues too.

Lees - Alan Fernie:
Band Number 9
Placing: 26th

Scouthead - Jonathan Pippen:
Band Number 22
Contest points: 143
Placing: 56th
Opening doesn't really sit, good effort with dynamics though. Accomp to solo is too loud. Trombones it sounds good, but your note lengths are not uniform. Cornets + horns seem to struggle in semiquaver accomp. The accomps are again a little too loud for the 'p' cornet. Intonation is good in general. Thank you. Good tempo and it settled. More drilling of the semis, ensemble in general + balance would benefit. But lots to commend.

Delph - Mike Kilroy:
Band Number 34
Placing: 31st
A tad loose to start and not always balanced. Some good efforts on show. Bass solo is good and balanced although you lose tempo slightly.
The band is keeping the style well and performs consistently. More balance and attention to ensemble would be good. Thanks

Diggle - Simon Kerwin:
Band Number 45
Points: 144
Placing: 55th
Opening - A good march tempo so thank you. You seem to enjoy this march, it is good. There are a lot of details regarding everyone playing the same rhythms and balance which don't always work.
Cornet solo - this a good piece to demonstrate your good PC, well done PC. Bass solo - Keep the notes full tubas please.
trio - Once again PC, Well done MD on your choice and direction. You have a good band with lots of potential so continue to work on clarity, rhythms, dynamics, balance and all basics and you will succeed.

Dobcross - Alan Widdop:
Band Number 64
