Adjudicators' Remarks - The Mermaid of Zennor

Order of play: 16, Placing: 13th

Richard Marshall:

Good tempo maintained through A + B.
You lost a little pulse into C.
Woodblock into D untidy + this affects the ensemble.
G intonation doesn't settle and there are a few hesitant moments. Keep up wood block/side drum!
K is a slower tempo now and too slow into M.
Tempo picked up at M. Nice baritone/solo horn.
Clumpy basses before N. N soloists are ok.
O balance issues. Louder euphonium?
Good glockenspiel at P.
Q lovely noise - a little untuneful towards the end. Decent close.
S fast to start.
T baritones intonation.
U good and the tempo is back to crotchet = 120.
W - good section. Confident timpani!!
Good dynamic build into Z.
Ensemble not quite together but it's ok at Z.
AA too slow.
CC loss of detail to finish.

Philip Littlemore:

Nice sounds to open and good dynamic range.
It's slowing into C.
D not quite secure and E is not quite tidy.
F well done horns, nice balance.
G not quite together between sections.
Your tempo is slowing throughout this section and it's not quite as jaunty as the beginning.
A big rall into M but this now flows forward.
Careful of tuning before N.
Entries at N are not quite together.
O is not quite balanced.
P is a little tentative and there is little in the way of a stringendo.
Q is warm but watch the tuning as it comes to a close. A good close to this section.
S is not quite together and a touch quick. It settles at T and sounds better for it.
Explosive timp at 260!
W is neat and tidy.
Good build into Z which has a good transition between time sigs.
AA too slow and the rall. is laboured.
Not enough definition in quavers at CC.
Keep a close eye on the tempi and their relation to each other. Some of the character was lost at times but some good solo playing throughout.
